Regency Hotel murder accused to be tried at non-jury court
Summary
Patrick Hutch Jnr, aged 24, is accused of murdering 34‑year‑old David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in Dublin on 5 February. Byrne was shot during a boxing weigh‑in by a gang of heavily armed raiders. Hutch was charged in May at Dublin District Court with Byrne's murder and with unlawful possession of three AK47 assault rifles. The Special Criminal Court has been ordered to try Hutch under Section 49 of the Offences Against the State Act, and a body warrant has been issued to bring him to the court.
