Man who attacked two St Patrick's Day volunteers jailed for five years
Summary
Dean McKeever, aged 19, was sentenced to six years' imprisonment, with the final 12 months suspended, for assaulting two St Patrick's Day volunteers on 17 March 2015. The volunteers were attacked at Belgard Square Luas stop in Tallaght, struck to the ground and kicked to the head while they were vulnerable. One victim suffered a fractured skull, bleeding to the ear and sciatica; the other sustained a broken cheekbone, a broken face plate, a severed facial nerve and eye damage, requiring treatment in three hospitals and the insertion of two titanium plates. McKeever also assaulted a man with a broken bottle at Jervis Centre on 19 November 2015, hitting him over the head with the bottle. He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing harm and one count of assault causing harm and one count of producing a weapon.
