A jury at the Central Criminal Court has continued deliberations in the trial of a Donegal woman accused of indecently assaulting a male student nearly four decades ago. Jacintha McSherry O'Connor, aged 63 and from The Mullins in Donegal Town, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of indecently assaulting a child between June and September 1985. The alleged offences occurred while Ms McSherry O'Connor worked as a student teacher at a Dublin school, with the incidents said to have taken place during home tuition sessions. The complainant was thirteen years old at the time. The court also heard evidence of alleged sexual contact between the accused and the boy during a family holiday to Spain prior to the period covered by the charges. Following more than four and a half hours of deliberation on the trial's fifth day, Judge Elma Sheahan directed jurors to adjourn for the evening. Deliberations are to resume the following day.
