ATM theft defendant found hiding in toilet, Special Criminal Court hears

A man charged with attempted ATM theft and organised crime offences appeared before the Special Criminal Court in relation to an incident at the Riverfront Hotel in Virginia, County Cavan, in August 2019. Daniel O'Callaghan, aged 31, of Monog Road, Crossmaglen, County Armagh, has pleaded not guilty to charges under the Criminal Justice Act relating to the attempted theft and allegations of involvement with a criminal organisation. Detective Superintendent James O'Leary told the court that gardaí received intelligence of a planned ATM theft and responded to Main Street, Virginia, in the early hours of August 14th. The court heard that one co-accused was apprehended hours later hiding in a bathroom of the hotel. Mr O'Callaghan faces multiple charges including criminal damage, theft, and possession of cash and stolen equipment. The trial continues before Justice Tara Burns and two other judges.
