A 27-year-old man from Castleblayney, County Monaghan has pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court to three offences arising from his involvement with a cross-border criminal organisation in 2019. Ciaran Duffy admitted attempting to steal an ATM and its contents from a restaurant on Main Street, Virginia, County Cavan on 14 August 2019. He also pleaded guilty to participating in the movement of cash on behalf of the criminal organisation at Tullypole, Moynalty, County Meath on 20 August 2019, and to contributing to the possession of cash at the same location on 14 August with intent to facilitate further offences. The three-judge, non-jury court, presided over by Mr Justice Tony Hunt, scheduled sentencing for 1 February 2022. Duffy remains on bail pending sentence.
