Five men, including a former All-Ireland club footballer, have had books of evidence served at the Special Criminal Court in relation to alleged thefts and attempted thefts of automated teller machines in Cavan and Monaghan during 2019. Daniel O'Callaghan, aged 30, from Crossmaglen in County Armagh, faces charges including the attempted theft of an ATM at the Riverfront Hotel in Virginia on 14 August 2019, allegedly for the benefit of a criminal organisation. Brothers Ciaran and Gerard Duffy, both from County Monaghan, are charged with related offences concerning incidents in Castleblayney on 3 April 2019 and Virginia on 14 August 2019. Niall Finnegan and Stephen Duffy face charges relating to the movement and handling of cash. All five accused were remanded on continuing bail by Mr Justice Tony Hunt, sitting with two other judges, until 1 February 2020 for mention of their cases.
