A 30-year-old man with three All-Ireland club championship medals has been charged with offences relating to ATM thefts across Cavan and Monaghan. Daniel O'Callaghan appeared before the Special Criminal Court on charges including the theft of an ATM in Castleblayney on April 3rd, 2019, and the attempted theft of an ATM at The Riverfront Hotel in Virginia on August 14th, 2019. He faces additional charges under the Criminal Justice Act alleging involvement with a criminal organisation. Detective Garda Jim Matthews arrested Mr O'Callaghan at Cavan District Court on foot of a warrant. The court heard he had been on strict bail since January for related matters, which he had complied with fully. Justice Tara Burns remanded him in custody until Monday to permit gardaí to make inquiries regarding a proposed surety. Four other men have already been granted bail in connection with the same investigation.
