Young Dublin man caught with drugs and cash avoids jail

A 22-year-old man from Dublin's North Strand has received a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to drug offences at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Daryl Conroy was stopped by gardaí in Drumcondra on 9 December 2015, when officers discovered a quantity of cannabis and cocaine with an estimated street value of €10,628, along with drug paraphernalia and multiple mobile phones. A subsequent search of his home yielded €10,580 in cash. The court heard that Conroy was 19 at the time of the offence and had no previous convictions. Judge Martin Nolan imposed a four-year prison sentence but suspended it in full, conditional on Conroy keeping the peace for that period. The judge noted Conroy's employment history and role as a father, and considered a positive reference from Crumlin Youth Project submitted to the court.
