Psychic "is not Walter Mitty", prosecution tell deception trial

At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, the prosecution concluded its case against Simon Gold, a fifty-four-year-old from Aughavas, County Leitrim, who has pleaded not guilty to twenty-two charges including money laundering, theft, deception, and control of false instruments allegedly committed between January 2010 and October 2012. The State alleges Mr Gold operated multiple entities including Anglo Irish Global Ltd and a purported virtual bank called Irish Nationwide Bank, using false documents to defraud five men of substantial sums. Prosecuting counsel contended that Mr Gold deliberately created fraudulent instruments that resulted in real financial loss. The defence argued the accused, whilst admitting to using false documents in limited contexts, was not the criminal mastermind depicted, and suggested alternative culpability. The trial, before Judge Nolan and a jury, was ongoing.
