A 23-year-old man pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assaulting a commuter on a Luas tram on 11 November 2016. Lee Murray, formerly of Blanchardstown, admitted attacking the victim and producing a screwdriver during the incident. The court heard the victim was travelling to work in the early hours when Murray and others boarded the tram near Rialto. During the assault, Murray used the screwdriver to cause injury to the victim's hand, causing significant bleeding. The victim reported feeling very fearful following the attack. Following his arrest, Murray expressed remorse and indicated his wish to apologise to the victim. The court was informed of his 34 previous convictions, including a 20-month sentence imposed in February for a firearms offence. Judge Cormac Quinn adjourned sentencing to 15 February pending a Probation Service report.
