Dubliner "went crazy" in nightclub attack, court hears

A 22-year-old Dublin man pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assaulting two cousins at the Wright nightclub in Swords in February 2015. Patrick Anderson, of Lanesborough Gardens, Finglas, punched both men in the face and head inside the venue before pursuing them outside, where he continued the attack. One victim sustained fractures to his jaw, whilst the other suffered a broken kneecap and ongoing leg difficulties requiring further treatment. Garda evidence indicated that Anderson had consumed alcohol that evening, as had the victims. Security staff reported that one of the cousins displayed aggressive behaviour towards Anderson during the incident. Anderson has no previous convictions and had not come to garda attention prior to this matter. An offer of compensation from the defendant was declined by the victims. Judge Melanie Greally adjourned the case to March for a plea in mitigation.
