A dispute over the ownership and operation of a meat processing plant in Lifford, County Donegal, has left fifty-five workers unable to return to their jobs. The High Court heard on Tuesday that the plant operated by Edenmore Farm Meats Ltd has been closed following an occupation of the premises. Mr Justice Paul Gilligan expressed concern for the employees, who have reportedly faced threats and intimidation. The dispute involves a bank-appointed receiver seeking to take control of the plant as part of AIB's debt recovery proceedings against the former owner. The receiver and the bank have obtained permission to pursue legal action against the former owner and others alleged to have illegally barricaded the premises. Counsel for Edenmore Farm Meats Ltd told the court the company's workers will not return until the matter is resolved. Mr Justice Gilligan agreed the company should be made a notice party to the proceedings and adjourned the case for one week.
