At the Central Criminal Court on Thursday, the State pathologist gave evidence that a man found dead in a drain in Clara, County Offaly was probably beaten before being shot multiple times. Professor Marie Cassidy told the court that Christy Daly, aged 47, sustained significant blunt force injuries including a blow to the mouth that dislodged five upper front teeth and a fractured nose prior to being shot in the legs. His body was discovered in shallow water on Bog Lane on 7 January 2014, where he had resided. Matthew Gralton, aged 22, of Mount Prospect, County Roscommon, and Ross Allen, aged 25, with addresses in Dublin and Offaly, have pleaded not guilty to murder. The trial, before Justice Patrick McCarthy and a jury, continues.
