ATM accused's detention is legitimate, State tells High Court

A 24-year-old man from County Armagh, charged in connection with the recovery of an ATM at Drumass, Iniskeen in County Monaghan, has challenged the legality of his detention at the High Court. Adam Grant was remanded in custody at Monaghan District Court on Saturday after an application for bail was refused. He faces charges of causing £12,000 in criminal damage to an ATM containing £52,000 and possession of stolen property. At the High Court hearing, Grant's legal representatives argued that the District Judge did not apply the correct criteria when refusing bail. The State's counsel contended that Grant's detention is lawful and that the District Judge did not err in refusing bail on grounds that he posed a flight risk. Mr Justice Richard Humphreys adjourned the case to allow further consideration of the legal issues raised.
