Darren Wynne, aged 21 of Ballyroe, Athy, County Kildare, has been sentenced to life imprisonment following his conviction for murder at the Central Criminal Court. Wynne was found guilty on July 10th of murdering Jamie Lindsay, aged 20, at Coney Green, Coneyboro, Athy on April 6th, 2013. The jury unanimously determined that Wynne discharged a sawn-off shotgun at close range, fatally wounding Lindsay in the right eye. Wynne was additionally convicted of possessing the firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life. He had initially pleaded not guilty to murder, though a guilty plea to manslaughter was rejected by the Director of Public Prosecutions. Sentencing on the firearms offences was adjourned pending probation and psychological reports. Two co-accused, Quentin Monaghan and James Seery, both aged 21, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and to possession of the sawn-off shotgun during the trial and will be sentenced separately.
