Jail term cut for abuse of young girl

Outcome: Mark Walsh (32), with a last address at Hollymount, Claremorris, Co Mayo, was sentenced to five years with the final year suspended at Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court after pleading guilty to six counts of sexual assault between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2010. Walsh successfully appealed against the severity of his sentence today and was re-sentenced to four years imprisonment with the final year suspended after the Court of Appeal found that the sentencing judge had erred in failing to consider the youth's age at the time of the commission of the offences.
