Outcome: Judge Melanie Greally sentenced him to two and a half years imprisonment, which she suspended for two and a half years on condition that he keep the peace and be of good behaviour upon release. Judge Greally said that while McDonagh had committed a serious offence, his guilty plea and full admission to gardaí were sufficient mitigation to suspended the totality of his sentence.
