Welfare fraudster ordered to carry out community service
Stage: Sentence
Plea: Guilty
Outcome: She said that due to the amount involved the court had alternatives to an immediate custodial sentence but she had to take into account the wider social implications of social welfare fraud. "There is a serious issue with honesty on Mr Gavin's part which he needs to address," said Judge Greally, warning him he would end up serving a lengthy prison sentence if he persisted in this type of activity. She ordered Gavin to carry out 240 hours community service within 12 months, with one year to be served in default.
