Man jailed for handling drug gang's cash

Outcome: A co-accused Derek Murray (39) of Greenwood Walk, Ayrfield, Dublin 13, was also jailed for three years last week for his role in transporting the money after McCarthy handed it over. Passing sentence today, Judge Martin Nolan said the money had been the product of criminality and McCarthy had been useful to third parties in relation to his role of packaging, storing and handing over the money onwards. "This is what organised crime is all about – making money – and this defendant played his part," said Judge Nolan, noting it was very serious to involve himself in handling that amount of money.
