Teen with "particular problems" avoids jail for having stolen bikes worth €11k
Stage: Sentence
Plea: Guilty
Outcome: Eoin Hannigan (19), of Oldcourt Farm, Firhouse, Tallaght, in Dublin was given a fully-suspended sentence of two years after a judge accepted that he was a young man with "particular problems". Counsel for Hannigan, Sarah Jane O'Callaghan BL, had appealed to the judge to either adjourn the sentence or give a suspended sentence, as she said her client "needed to be seen by a psychiatrist as a matter of urgency". "He has extremely complex difficulties and huge underlying issues, he has ADHD and is on the autism spectrum, he is very vulnerable and cannot restrain himself from acting impulsively," she said.
