Convicted killer given three-year sentence over violent assault

Outcome: Alan Donoghue (35), who was serving a eight year sentence for manslaughter at the time, admitted his role in the prison attack on Gary Hanley with two co-accused, Gary Howard and Mark Dignam. Donoghue is currently serving a nine year sentence with the final three years suspended for possession of a firearm and assisting an inmate to escape imposed at Trim Circuit Court last week.
