'Very impressionable' young man remanded in custody for fire damage to Luas during Dublin riots
Evan Moore, aged 20, was remanded in custody pending sentencing on 13 October after pleading guilty to rioting and fire damage to a Luas tram during the Dublin riots of November 2023. The court heard that Moore, who was 18 at the time, had been "swept up in anti‑immigrant sentiment" and that his mother was "disgusted and ashamed" of his actions. CCTV footage showed him moving burning material onto the tram and damaging its windows between 7.05 pm and 7.40 pm. The tram suffered nearly €5 million in damage, and the Luas service was suspended for 24 hours. Moore had no prior convictions, had admitted his involvement during a May 2024 protest, and had completed an online anti‑racism course. The judge revoked his bail and ordered a probation report before sentencing.
