Two years for man who defiled girl (14) he messaged on Instagram
Dean Carr, 25, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for defiling a 14‑year‑old girl he met on Instagram and took to a Dublin hotel. He pleaded guilty to meeting a child under 17 for the purpose of a sex act and to sending sexually explicit material to her on Instagram. The court heard that Carr had paid for the girl's train ticket and a hotel room, and that CCTV and Instagram messages confirmed he knew she was underage. He had no prior convictions and had been working in retail. Carr accepted responsibility and pleaded guilty, and the judge noted his remorse and the mitigating factors of his guilty plea and lack of previous offences. The judge also remarked that Carr's actions were pre‑meditated and reprehensible. The sentence was imposed after a hearing that considered Carr's high risk of re‑offending, which could be reduced with therapeutic intervention.
