Woman with 165 previous convictions robbed same shop twice in a month
Megan Gaffey, 28, of Dublin 1, was sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after pleading guilty to two counts of robbery committed on May 22 and June 13, 2024, at a shop on the quays in Dublin City Centre. The court heard that Gaffey, who has 165 previous convictions, was on bail and serving a suspended sentence at the time of the offences. In the first incident, she allegedly took €100 after a struggle with the shop manager; in the second, she allegedly threatened a worker with scissors and took €420. Judge Orla Crowe noted the use of scissors and Gaffey's extensive criminal history as aggravating factors, while acknowledging her remorse and efforts to address addiction while in custody. The judge imposed a sentence of four years and six months, backdated to November last when Gaffey pleaded guilty. The final 12 months of the sentence were suspended, and Gaffey was placed under probation supervision for one year to assist with drugs treatment and accommodation. The matter was finalised with this sentencing order.
