He noted extensive skull fractures and blunt force injuries, while confirming the deceased had a blood alcohol level of 128mg per cent and cannabis in his system. The prosecution alleges Mr. Wynne fired the weapon after luring the victim into the open, with Mr. Seery and Mr. Monaghan participating in a joint enterprise. The trial is ongoing before a jury of eight men and four women.

In a High Court hearing on 27 May 2014, Mr Justice John Edwards ordered the surrender of 26‑year‑old Jason Patrick Buckley of Harbour View Apartments, Athy, to British authorities on a charge of conspiring to cause explosions in Staffordshire, England, in summer 2012. Buckley, who denies the allegation, was brought to the court in September 2013 under a European Arrest Warrant. The judge directed that Buckley be handed over to authorised officials and remanded in custody at Cloverhill Prison, with a written judgment to be issued. Buckley was scheduled to appear again on 3 June 2014.
