Criminal jailed for blinding man during row between neighbours

Luke Strong, 25, of Saul Road, Crumlin, was sentenced to three years in prison for assault causing harm after he threw a shard from a broken ceramic bowl into the eye of a 59‑year‑old neighbour during a dispute on 6 September 2021. The incident stemmed from a quarrel between the victim's sister and her neighbours over a blocked driveway. Strong, who had not started the fight, was found to have acted recklessly, and the judge noted his remorse and guilty plea. The victim lost sight in his left eye and suffered serious injury. Strong had 53 prior convictions, including threats to kill and robbery, and had a chaotic background involving drug abuse from age 13. The sentence was back‑dated to 4 March 2023.
